Overview The purpose of a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS or Medical Scribe) at Oak Street Health is to support our primary care providers with clinical documentation so that they can focus on providing exceptional care to our patients. Scribes assist providers throughout the patient care journey — from morning huddles to exam rooms to post‑visit follow‑up. Responsibilities Document patient encounters (~80%) – observe visits, complete structured notes (HPI, assessment, plan, exam), assign CPT and ICD‑10 codes, prepare after‑visit summaries, and consult with providers to ensure accurate documentation. Clinical Documentation Improvement (~10%) – request and review medical records, leverage Oak Street’s population health tools, prepare for daily huddles and documentation reviews, and consult with providers on documentation opportunities. Administrative support (~10%) – place orders and referrals, address tasks, and support the care team with additional responsibilities related to clinical documentation. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge: medical terminology, common medications, prior clinical experience (shadowing/volunteering) is strongly preferred; scribe or transcription experience is preferred but not required. Skills: advanced listening and communication skills, strong computer literacy, ability to learn new technical workflows. Abilities: adapt to new workflows, type 70+ wpm (strongly preferred), take direction and work within a team, excellent job attendance, ability to commit to at least 1 year (2+ ideal), work 40‑45 hours per week during clinic hours, comply with hospital and Oak Street Health policies (including HIPAA), U.S. work authorization. Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $17.00 – $28.46 per hour (base hourly rate or base annual full‑time salary). This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission, or short‑term incentive program in addition to the base pay range.
