Senior HR Generalist

Bowie, MD | Exempt | Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Full-Time | Hybrid Remote

About the Role

This is not a traditional HR Generalist position. At Installnet, the Senior HR Generalist is the HR department. You are an HR team of one, responsible for the full employee lifecycle at a growing, project-driven organization. You will report directly to the COO and work closely with the Director of Operations. This is a hybrid remote role with periodic in-office presence expected.

If you want ownership over policy, performance, culture, and development, and you thrive without a lot of hand-holding, this role was built for you.

What You Will Own

Strategic HR Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the COO, Director of Operations, and senior leadership on all people-related decisions
  • Present HR metrics and workforce trends to leadership monthly
  • Build and maintain data trackers and dashboards that turn raw data into actionable insight

Culture & Employee Engagement

  • Drive Installnet's culture strategy, including leading the culture committee and administering engagement surveys
  • Design and execute employee recognition, milestone, and celebration programs
  • Present to the full staff monthly, modeling transparent communication and reinforcing company values

Performance Management

  • Own the full performance review cycle from competency framework design through calibration support
  • Build and administer KPI-linked review tools tailored to each role family across the organization
  • Coach managers through performance conversations, development planning, and accountability documentation

Learning & Professional Development

  • Design and lead employee development programs, including leadership development for managers transitioning into people leadership
  • Identify skill gaps, source learning resources, and track development progress across the organization
  • Administer professional development reimbursement programs and educational assistance benefits

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Lead full-cycle recruiting: job postings, sourcing, interview coordination, candidate assessment, and offer management
  • Build and continuously improve a structured onboarding experience
  • Set new hires up for success from day one through intentional orientation and integration
  • Develop and maintain interview guides, competency-based screening tools, and candidate evaluation frameworks

HR Policy & Compliance

  • Draft, update, and administer company-wide HR policies, including the employee handbook
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment law (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ADEA, and related regulations)
  • Manage leave administration, accommodations, and complex employee relations matters with sound judgment and appropriate documentation

Compensation & Benefits

  • Lead compensation benchmarking, pay band development, and annual compensation strategy in partnership with the COO
  • Coordinate benefits administration and open enrollment, serving as the primary point of contact for employees
  • Serve as backup for biweekly payroll processing, including updates to employee records, deductions, and benefit changes

HRIS & HR Operations

  • Maintain the integrity of all employee data in Paylocity (HRIS), including audits, document libraries, and workflow configuration
  • Oversee HR administrative functions including onboarding data entry, exit interviews, and personnel file management

What We Are Looking For

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business/Management, Psychology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated ownership across multiple HR functions
  • Proven ability to advise and influence executive and senior leadership
  • Strong HR analytics skills and comfortable building trackers, interpreting workforce data, and presenting findings
  • Experience creating HR policy, leading performance management processes, and managing employee relations matters
  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, FLSA, ADEA, and related employment law
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); experience with HRIS platforms
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions without a playbook

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Management, or related field
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
  • Experience in a construction, project management, facilities, or field-service industry
  • Familiarity with Paylocity or comparable HRIS/payroll platform
  • Experience designing or facilitating leadership development programs

Who Thrives Here

The person who succeeds here is resourceful and intellectually curious. You are energized by building things, not just maintaining them. You can draft a policy in the morning, coach a manager through a hard conversation in the afternoon, and present a workforce analysis to the COO before end of day. You do not wait to be told what to do. You identify the gap and fill it.

Installnet moves fast. The culture is entrepreneurial and the leadership is accessible. HR is not on the sideline here.
